Metal corrosion mechanisms
CT observations provide insight into the development of corrosion pits, stress corrosion cracks and their geometries, to improve system design and deduce mathematical formulae. A key aspect is that pitting corrosion in stainless steel usually initiates through local breakdown of the passive surface film.
